NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma has been waiting for the
Amath M'Baye who averaged 12 points and 5.7 rebounds a game as a
sophomore at Wyoming to make his presence felt this season.
If the last two games are any indication, the junior transfer may have arrived just in time for the new year.
Coming off of a 16-point, six-rebound performance that earned him Big 12
newcomer of the week honors, M'Baye scored 14 points and pulled down
six boards to help lead the Sooners to a 72-42 win over Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday in the first game played at OU's
McCasland Field House since 1975.
M'Baye was 7 of 11 from the field to complement a game-high 17-point
effort from Steven Pledger, who connected on 5 of 10 shots from beyond
the arc. While M'Baye paced OU with eight first-half points, Pledger led
the way with 11 points after the break, for the Sooners (9-3).
“It's something you dream of,” Saunders said. “Playing in the Cotton Bowl here ... this is amazing.
“I'm just really blessed to play in this game.”
The junior receiver spent nearly all of December unsure if he'd join his Oklahoma teammates Friday, when the Sooners meet Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl.
The Sooners are still working to finalize their 2013 class but the coaching staff will take some time to focus on the 2014 class in early January.
Oklahoma will hold its first junior day of the year Jan. 12, a weekend that will also feature some 2013 visitors.
The expected visitors include Edmond Santa Fe quarterback Justice Hansenand Tulsa Memorial tight endMike'Quan Deane. Also expected are a trio of Texas players that already hold an offer from the Sooners: Houston Cypress Falls outside linebacker Otaro Alaka, Mount Pleasant wide receiver KD Cannon and Brenham cornerback Darrion Johnson. “I know Eric Dickerson is feeling so good right now,” Peterson said with a chuckle. “But God willing, I'll get it next year.”
Peterson's run for the record was even more remarkable when you consider he tore ligaments in his left knee last season, an injury that is difficult for a running back to return from. (LA Times)

Peterson had his lowest rushing total since getting 79 yards on Oct. 14 in a loss at Washington, breaking a streak of eight 100-yard games. Peterson, who is from Palestine, Texas, had more than 100 family and friends at the game.
"We knew they were going to focus on the run, which is OK," Peterson said of the Texans. "It felt good to see other guys get involved and us continue to move the ball down and score some points."
The two acknowledged they've filed for NFL Draft Advisory Board evaluations, which show players where they're likely to be drafted.
The looming decisions require a slew of important considerations; chief among them are their projected round, its financial rewards and an honest assessment of how both might improve with another college season.

"I'm not nervous," Dickerson said, laughing.
In his first public comments since Peterson got close to his mark and said Dickerson should be nervous, Dickerson made one thing clear: He has great respect for Peterson but doesn't think Peterson will break his mark.
"Adrian is a class guy," Dickerson said. "I don't watch football any more. I don't watch sports. I just see the highlights. I see his highlights and he's a great player. I don't want him to break my record, but I wish him the best."
NORMAN, Okla. -- Greg Goodhue, an All-American and national champion in 1974 on the University of Oklahoma men’s gymnastics team, passed away in his hometown of Weatherford, Texas, Monday. He was 60 years old.
Goodhue, a native of Lakewood, Colo., was a two-time letterwinner for the Sooners in 1973 and ’74 and competed primarily on vault and floor exercise. In 1974, he won a national championship and was named an All-American on the vault. He was the second Sooner in the history of the program to win an individual national championship and the third to earn All-American status.
“We are saddened by the news and send our condolences to Greg’s family,” OU head coach Mark Williams said. “Greg was a pioneer and a great ambassador for the OU gymnastics program.

Houston Alief Taylor defensive end Ogbonnia Okoronkwo switched his commitment for the Cowboys to the Sooners.
Okoronkwo (6-foot-3, 220 pounds) had been committed to Oklahoma State since June.
In addition to OU and OSU, Okoronkwo's offers include Kansas, Purdue, SMU, Texas Tech, Utah and West Virginia among others.
NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma junior Sallie McLaurin was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Third Team the organization announced Wednesday.
It is the second All-America recognition of McLaurin’s career, who was named to the honorable mention team in 2011.
McLaurin becomes the fourth Sooner to be selected to the All-American first, second or third in program history and under Oklahoma head coach Santiago-Restrepo, joining the likes of Joanna Schmitt (2006, second team), Elaine Santos (2006, third team) and Brianne Barker (2010 and 2011, third team).

Jefferson and the Sooners will take on Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M on Jan. 4 in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

NORMAN, Okla. -- Organizers of the Warren Spahn Award Gala announced Tuesday that Merv Johnson, University of Oklahoma color analyst on the Sooner Radio Network, is the 2012 Bill Teegins Excellence in Sportscasting Award winner.
The Teegins Award is presented annually to an outstanding sportscaster with Oklahoma ties. Johnson serves as director of football operations for the University of Oklahoma along with being a member of the radio broadcast team for Oklahoma football. A member of four coaching staffs that have won national championships, Johnson brings a wealth of coaching and player experience to his radio broadcasting of Oklahoma football.
"I knew Bill Teegins for years and always knew him to bring class and professionalism to everything he did. To be associated with an award that bears his name is quite flattering," said Johnson.
Jarrod Kruger, nephew of Oklahoma basketball coach Lon Kruger, has left the Oklahoma basketball team.
Jarrod started his basketball career at Kansas State as a walk-on. He did not play a game the fall of his freshman year in 2010 and transferred to the University of Kansas during the spring of his 2011 year. In Fall 2011, he then transferred to Oklahoma. Due to NCAA transfer rules, Jarrod was ineligible to play for the Sooners during the 2011-2012 season.
He would have been eligible to play this year but decided to focus on his academics instead. On his Oklahoma player bio, his major is listed as multidisciplinary studies, but his uncle said he’s interested in some area of business. (The Oklahoman)

Tickets for the 2 p.m. game, to be played inside historic McCasland Field House in the heart of OU's campus, cost just $10 ($5 for ages 2-12) and are available for purchase by clicking here or by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at (800) 456-4668. All public seats are reserved.
OU student tickets for the contest are free, but students must possess a physical ticket to gain entrance (available online here or at the OU Athletics Ticket Office). Free OU student tickets will also be available at the west entrance before the game, while supplies last. Student seating will be general admission on the north baseline.

Less than a month ago, Broken Arrow junior running back Devon Thomas decided to commit to Oklahoma.
Now, Thomas has decided to take more time with his decision, withdrawing his commit to OU.
Thomas also has offers from Oklahoma State, Clemson, Houston and West Virginia. He's expected to keep the Sooners in consideration.
Thomas missed the first part of the season due to off-the-field issues but finished with 495 yards and seven touchdowns rushing in seven games. (The Oklahoman)
NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 10 University of Oklahoma wrestling team fell to in-state rival No. 2 Oklahoma State, 26-9, Sunday afternoon in McCasland Field House. The loss was the second for the Sooners in three days, and drops the Crimson and Cream to 4-3 on the year, while the Cowboys remain unscathed on the year with a 4-0 mark.
The dual marked the beginning of Big 12 action for both teams - as Oklahoma State walked away with the win and 1-0 slate in conference action.
"This is not unfamiliar territory for me," explained Oklahoma head coach Mark Cody. "I've been in this situation before with building a program. You're going to have your highs and lows.
"I think that a lot of the close matchups, we were in them and had a possibility to win. There are just a few mental errors that we're making and I think that's making a difference in a lot of those matches," Cody stated.

Greg Bryant (Delray Beach, Fla./American Heritage), the No. 2 running back in the ESPN 150, committed to Notre Dame at the end of his official visit on campus Sunday, according to his father, Greg Bryant Sr.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Bryant chose the Irish over Oklahoma, Auburn, Georgia and South Carolina. He becomes the 22nd verbal commitment in Notre Dame's recruiting class of 2013 and the eighth member of the ESPN 150.
Notre Dame's recruiting class currently is ranked fourth in the ESPN class rankings.
Bryant originally committed to Oklahoma earlier in the year but re-opened his recruitment over the summer. (ESPN.com)
According to Cleveland County district attorney Greg Mashburn, Sooners cornerback Joe Powell has a preliminary conference hearing scheduled for Dec. 18 on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
According to Mashburn and a Cleveland County court affidavit, Norman police connected Powell to the drugs when they tracked a FedEx package from California containing four pounds of "high-grade" marijuana.
Through a spokesman, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops indicated he was aware of Powell's situation, and that Powell has been suspended from the team since October.

NORMAN, Okla. -- The 10th-ranked University of Oklahoma wrestling team will face two top-25 opponents in a span of three days, including the annual Bedlam Dual against No. 2 Oklahoma State (2-0, 0-0) in Norman on Sunday at 2 p.m. CST at McCasland Fieldhouse, home of Oklahoma Wrestling.
Sunday's match against the Cowboys will be broadcast live on FSSW/FCSP.
The Sooners (4-1, 0-0) travel to Arkansas City, Kan., on Friday to face No. 20 Wyoming (1-1, 0-0). The match will be held at Cowley College and competition will begin at 7 p.m. CST.
The Sooners are 14-1-2 all-time against Wyoming. The Cowboys' lone victory came last season on Jan. 3 in Laramie, Wyo., when they narrowly topped the Sooners, 18-17.
Tee Shepard, one of the top cornerbacks in the 2012 recruiting class, reportedly will enroll at Oklahoma in January.
His decision was reported by Rivals.com.
“The 5 star corner Tee Shepard is now...#BackInBusiness,” Shepard tweeted Tuesday evening.
Shepard (6-foot-1, 180 pounds) joined Notre Dame in January but left the team before spring practice began.
With 1:50 left in the first half, indispensable senior Whitney Hand crumpled to the Lloyd Noble Center court, writhing in pain as she reached for her left knee. In a moment, the only thing you could hear among 4,938 shocked fans was Hand howling in tears.
She had driven into the lane in transition and planted to attempt a shot amid North Texas defenders. Her left knee buckled as she did so. Mean Green coach Mike Petersen reached her immediately, as the accident occurred on his end of the court.

NORMAN, Okla. – Kendric Maple of the 10th-ranked University of Oklahoma wrestling team has been chosen as the Big 12 Conference Wrestler of the Month, announced Wednesday by the Conference office in Irving, Texas, for his 4-0 start to the 2012-13 wrestling season. It is the fourth career honor for Maple – who was also named November’s Wrestler of the Month in 2011.
Last season, Maple became one of three Big 12 wrestlers in conference history to take home three honors in one season after being named Wrestler of the Month on top of two Wrestler of the Week selections (Jan. 30 and Jan. 2).
Maple remained undefeated in 2012-13 with a 4-0 record in dual competition when he topped Binghamton’s Dan Riggi Sunday evening with a 22-5 tech fall in 3:32 en route to an Oklahoma victory. The redshirt junior built a 17-4 lead in the first period and scored his final five points with a takedown and near fall points to take home the win.
Ikard claimed second-team honors last season. He becomes the first OU player since Brian Bosworth in 1986 to receive Academic All-America First Team accolades.
He also becomes the first Oklahoma player to earn Academic All-America honors in consecutive seasons since Ron Shotts in 1966-67. Ikard is one of 22 OU football players to earn Academic All-America accolades and is one of only four to receive the distinction multiple times. Oklahoma has now landed an individual on the Academic All-America squad each of the last three years, a feat that was last accomplished in 1985-87.
The only question is whether the voters will give the award to a freshman for the first time.
Adrian Peterson, star running back for the Vikings and the only freshman to finish second in the voting, is hoping the jinx ends Saturday night.
"Hopefully, they don't rob him like they did me," Peterson, who lost by 328 votes to junior Matt Leinart in 2004, said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I hope he wins." (AP/Dallas Morning News)

Colvin received first-team recognition for his play at cornerback in 2012 after working at safety last season. FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) -- BJ Young's floater in the closing minute helped Arkansas snap a three-game losing streak with an 81-78 win over Oklahoma on Tuesday.
Marshawn Powell added a career-high 33 points to help the Razorbacks (4-3), who avoided their first four-game losing streak since closing out the 2009-10 season with six straight losses. The junior bested his previous career high of 29 points, which was set against Appalachian State in 2009.
NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 10 University of Oklahoma wrestling squad improved to 4-1 Sunday evening with a 31-9 victory over Binghamton University at McCasland Field House.
"Overall, I think it was pretty good test for us," explained Oklahoma head coach Mark Cody. "I was really stressed about those first couple of weight classes, but getting through that and coming out with a couple of wins was good for us going forward.
"We had a pretty good plan for them and it worked out well," he continued.
The Sooners only dropped three matches on the night in a contest that saw No. 141 pounder Kendric Maple remain undefeated in 2012 with a 4-0 dual record.

The University of Oklahoma confirmed Monday that it has sold out its allotment of tickets for AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic vs. Texas A&M. The Sooners and Aggies will meet on Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. CT at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Oklahoma's original allotment of 12,500 tickets went on sale to OU season-ticket holders upon the game's announcement at 7:45 p.m. Sunday. OU requested additional tickets from the Cotton Bowl, and that allotment was sold out by approximately 11:45 a.m. Monday, bringing the total number of tickets purchased to more than 13,000. The two Oklahoma football players were arrested early Sunday morning and booked at the Cleveland County Sheriff's office at 2:34 a.m.
Saunders and Johnson, both 20, were arrested during a traffic stop at Lindsey and Oakhurst in Norman about 2 a.m., sheriff's spokeswoman Megan McCormick said. The vehicle belonged to Saunders, but Johnson was driving, she said.
Broyles had become a dependable receiving option for the Lions after Nate Burleson broke his leg in Week 7. In four games as a starter, Broyles was averaging over 14 yards per catch, second only to Calvin Johnson among Lions receivers. He finished his rookie season with 22 catches for 310 yards and two touchdowns.
“It's tough,” guard Rob Sims said. “It feels like we've been having the worst luck lately. When you lose [Broyles], a guy who was going to be an emerging player on this team, to lose him for the rest of the season, it's hard.

The Sooners are seeking to make another run at the NCAA Men's College World Series in 2013 under head coach Sunny Golloway's watch. Oklahoma posted a 42-25 mark last season and reached its third Super Regional in program history. OU is looking to make its sixth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 36th overall appearance. The Sooners have reached the CWS on 10 previous occasions, winning national championships in 1951 and 1994.
NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team is ranked No. 4 in the 2013 GymInfo Preseason Coaches Poll released Monday.
The ranking matches the program's highest preseason standing; OU was also ranked No. 4 in the 2012 and 2011 preseason polls.
OU has started the season ranked in the top 10 for eight straight seasons and in the top 25 for 13 consecutive years. The Sooners have been ranked in the top 10 every season under head coach K.J. Kindler.
